Art and the Ecological Crisis

Art and the Ecological Crisis

The discourse on the Ecological Crisis is not new, but it is not ‘outdated’ because of that. This issue will be a hot topic in the future. This is especially true because it concerns the continuation of human life.

Every moment, we witness (and are also victims of) the seizure of living space, environmental pollution, and the exploitation of natural resources. Every year, we read research findings that show figures of productive land being seized, victims falling due to environmental pollution from the establishment of mines, and much more. We feel like we're under attack!

Certainly, many responses and solutions have been provided from various scientific sectors regarding this issue. However, to what extent is art's role in this matter? How does art ‘articulate’ this kind of crisis? And what solutions does it offer?
In this discussion, we will feature two speakers who have extensive experience (both theoretically and practically) with ecological issues: Muhammad Al Fayyadl and Yustoni Volunteero.

Muhammad Al Fayyadl will conduct a philosophical examination of the ideological foundations supporting the continuation of the ecological crisis. Furthermore, he will trace its influence on aesthetic ideology. Meanwhile, Yustoni Volunteero will extensively question how artistic practices ‘articulate’ ecological issues and examine the political position of artists in the context of the ecological crisis.
Come! The first discussion as an opening to the series of events for the ISI Postgraduate Dies Natalis 2017/XXXIII ‘Hilarity of Vagueness.’.
