Course Description

Philosophy of Art

This course generally discusses aesthetics, concepts, and art theories that align with the development and societal views of their respective eras. The main focus of this course is on aesthetic views, concepts, and theories that are useful for analyzing artworks, both textually and contextually. Students are expected to comprehensively and systematically understand various phenomena (natural, social, political, economic, and cultural) that influence the development of art, as well as various art views, concepts, and theories.

Sources Study

A literature review is conducted on scholarly literature and artworks/recordings of artworks. The purpose of the literature review is to determine the position and novelty of the knowledge from the research to be carried out by students compared to existing knowledge, whether in textual, visual, or other forms of artistic artifacts. The knowledge referred to includes theories, approaches, concepts, techniques, methods, and results.

Art and Politics History

This course is expected to sharpen knowledge and discourse in mastering methodologies, discourse, and substance of art history closely related to political events. For example: The existence of propaganda posters, paintings, media, theater, and so on. This includes various perspectives, approaches, and critical theories on various aspects, so that students have a critical perspective on the development of art history (fine arts, visual arts, performing arts, recorded media arts, and contemporary arts), artistic practices, and discourse in relation to politics.

Artistic Research Methods

For students of creation, this course emphasizes understanding and provides research practice through artistic creation. Understanding includes the epistemology of practical knowledge (know howand the establishment of practices. Research exercises on creative practices include exercises for recording, organizing, and interpreting data.

For students of research, this course includes qualitative research approaches. In it, students learn the epistemological foundations of qualitative research, the specifics of qualitative research for answering research questions, analyzing research data, clear conceptual frameworks, and organizing the relationships between concepts by describing them in clear diagrams.

Topic Deep Dive

This course covers topics and materials planned by the student(s) in conjunction with the supervisor(s) or promoter(s) (if already appointed), and is conducted in the second semester or no later than before the Public Seminar. The material for this course is expected to provide new understanding, depth, or perspectives as material for the dissertation topic development.

EDUCATION COSTS

The SPP fee for the Master's program per semester is Rp. 12,000,000.00 (twelve million rupiah), and for foreign students (WNA) it is Rp. 24,000,000.00 (twenty-four million rupiah).
