Master's Program

The first master of arts program in Indonesia was established in 2000. All art disciplines (visual, craft, recording, performance, music) are covered with various research interests (creation, performance, and study). Research is the focus of the graduate program to encourage the development of art knowledge, create art innovations, and contribute art insights in people's lives.

By studying master's level arts research at ISI Yogyakarta, you can:
- create innovatively, environmentally and ethically;
- develop mediums, techniques, styles and artistic aspects;
- explain concepts, create narratives, critique works, and give new meaning.

The new challenges of today's world require both direct engagement and fundamental reflection. This Master's program provides both.

The art study program of the master program of the ISI Yogyakarta Postgraduate Program as a leading study program at the national and Southeast Asian levels in 2030.

  1. Organizing higher education in the arts that develops the potential of the plurality of arts and culture of the archipelago and is oriented towards competition at the international level.
  2. Improve analytical, creative, and management skills in the creation and study of art at national and international levels.
  3. Strengthening the organization of the Postgraduate Program to improve the quality of educational services.
  4. Developing cooperation in the field of art study and creation with educational institutions/institutions at the national and international levels.

Graduate Profile

  1. The profile of a graduate of the Master of Arts Study Program is someone who has; first, an art intellectual with personality traits derived from the nation's cultural values; solve problems and develop the world of art and culture; think contextually, professionally, critically; and contribute their expertise to society. Second, having the ability as a creator and art researcher with the characteristics of appreciating the values of national cultural art and the environment; being able to create and research in the field of art; having a global and professional outlook; and playing a role in society. To support and realize such a graduate profile, it is necessary to support a curriculum that can be grouped into compulsory courses because the material must be mastered, and a number of elective courses because a number of these courses are important to know as an enrichment of student perspectives in the research process to study, create and perform works of art.
  2. The student profile of the Art Study Program Master's Program has a background in undergraduate education (S1) from various humanities disciplines, especially in the field of art graduates. Most (around 80%) graduates work as lecturers in various art universities, or universities that have interests or majors in art and design. Another 20% graduates have developed themselves in their career choices, including as artists (painters, graphic artists, sculptors, craftsmen, animators, filmmakers, photographers, visual communication designers, interior designers, fashion designers, art researchers, art writers).
  3. The various careers chosen, based on tracking users through questionnaires, expressed satisfaction with the abilities and professionalism of the graduates. Along with the development of the times, the mastery of information technology, digital, and digitalization has received major attention, so that students have technical skills and critical perspectives in creating, performing, and studying art.
