Academic Mentoring

Each student for the smooth running of their studies receives guidance from an academic advisor (PA) appointed by the director of PPs ISI Yogyakarta. The PA's job is to guide students' academic activities, including choosing elective courses, filling out KRS, and helping discuss final project topics. The academic advisor for master of arts governance students is Dr. Dewanto Sukistono, M.Sn.

Lectures

  • Filling out the Study Plan Card (KRS)

KRS filling is held according to the scheduled time. Each student can attend lectures if they have filled in KRS online and approved by the academic supervisor.

  • Lecture Attendance List

Students and lecturers are required to sign the attendance list for each meeting held every week. The attendance list is prepared by the sub-section officer of Dikmawa PPs ISI Yogyakarta in the academic section office. Lecturers take the attendance list and after the lecture is over the lecturer must submit it back. The attendance list is used as a basis for determining whether a student can take the final semester exam.. Students can take the final semester exam if they have taken minimum 90% of the lectures given.

Collective Grade List and Study Progress List

The collective score list (DNK) contains a list of student names and exam scores per semester for each course submitted to the Dikmawa subdivision. The deadline for collecting DNK follows the academic calendar.

DNK is signed by the lecturer and known by the assistant director I. The list of study progress scores (DNKS) is compiled based on the DNK every semester, as a certificate to determine the progress of student studies, signed by the assistant director I. DNKS equivalent temporary academic transcriptand as an attachment to the requirements for taking the final exam.

Academic transcript is a list of all courses taken and grades obtained by students, equipped with information about cumulative semester credit units and cumulative achievement index, which in essence shows that he has fulfilled the requirements in obtaining a master's degree. The academic transcript contains a brief identity of the student, thesis title, supervisor, and graduation predicate, signed by the director of PPs ISI Yogyakarta and given after the student graduates.

Study Load and Limits

The study load or the number of educational credits for the PPs master of arts governance program. ISI Yogyakarta is 42 credits, namely completing 27 credits of compulsory courses, 1 elective course of 3 credits, 2 elective courses of 2 credits, 2 credits of seminar, and 8 credits of final project/thesis.

All requirements to complete the master of arts program education to obtain a Master of Arts (M.Sn.) degree must be completed in a maximum period of 8 (eight) semester or 4 academic years, either with leave or not. If the student is unable to complete the course within this period, the student will be deemed not to have completed the course.

Student Status and Leave of Absence

There are two kinds of student status, active and inactive.

  1. Active Student

To be called an active student, students must pay full tuition fees, have a student identification card (KTM). Active students are entitled to participate in academic activities and use supporting facilities.

  1. Student on leave

Students on leave must obtain approval from the academic supervisor, pay 20% from tuition fees, and are not entitled to participate in academic activities. Students who repeat the final project exam are not entitled to apply for leave. The maximum leave period is 2 (two) semesters, and is not counted in the study period.

An application for leave of absence can be submitted if the student:

  • Have attended classes for two semesters, or
  • Have passed at least 30 (thirty) credits

    3. Absent

Students who do not register without explanation for 30 (thirty) calendar days from the last day of registration will be considered absent. Students who are absent will be considered to have resigned and removed from the list of postgraduate students at ISI Yogyakarta.

Test Organization

The end-of-semester exam is an assessment of students' achievements, how far they understand and master the material that has been given in each course during one semester. Examinations for theoretical courses can be held in various forms and ways, which can be written or oral, seminars, written works, and a combination of these various forms.

The weight of the exam assessment is in accordance with the syllabus. The elements of the student's final grade consist of class attendance (10%), weekly assignments (30%), midterm exams (20%), and final semester exams (40%).

If there are students who have not passed in 1 (one) course (grade <B), then students can be given the opportunity to improve it in the same semester. The maximum improvement exam result is B. There is no improvement for courses that have been passed.

Assessment System

The assessment is expressed by the letters A, A-, BA, B+, B, B-, C, D, and E. Each of these letter grades has a numerical weight (numerical/quality value): 4, 3, 2, 1, and 0 to mark the student's academic ability level.

 A grade of K = blank, means that the student has withdrawn / canceled legally the course taken. SKS is not calculated as a divider in the following semester.

In the mid-semester or end-of-semester exams and other assignments, to show the level of student ability in class, lecturers are also asked to give a numerical value / not a final grade. In the end, the number grades will be converted into letter grades with gradation details as listed below:

TESIS

Thesis is the last course to end the S2 level study of the master of arts governance study program at PPs. ISI Yogyakarta in the form of a thesis which has a credit weight of 8 credits.

Proposal, Proposal, and Thesis Topics

At the end of semester 2 (two) students submit a 2-3 page proposal topic script containing an elaboration of the topic and research questions. The name of the prospective supervisor is submitted on a separate sheet. Based on this script, the manager will appoint a TA proposal supervisor for each student.

The thesis proposal developed with the guidance of lecturers is submitted in semester 3 and tested in semester 3. The tested proposal must have been submitted in a seminar led by the thesis supervisor and open to students. The thesis proposal contains Chapter I (introduction), Chapter II (literature review), and Chapter III (methodology).

The preparation of the proposal, the implementation of mentoring, the preparation of the thesis or its accountability, to the thesis examination and guidelines for writing scientific articles/publications are presented in more detail in the TA writing guidebook.

Students who do not pass the TA proposal exam or the TA exam are given the opportunity to take the exam again in the same semester by bearing the exam fee.

Requirements for Applying for Thesis Proposal Session

  • Registered as an active student.
  • Have taken and passed compulsory and elective courses of at least 30 credits with a GPA of 3.0 and a grade of at least B.
  • Fill out the thesis proposal submission form signed by the academic supervisor.
  • Submit a thesis proposal manuscript which is duplicated in 4 (four) copies.

Requirements for Applying for Thesis Examination

  • Registered as an active student and free of administration & finance.
  • Have taken and passed all compulsory and elective courses totaling 34 credits with a GPA≥3.0 and a grade of at least B. This is evidenced by the DNKS (Dafar Nilai Kemajuan Studi).
  • Original TOEFL exam certificate issued by ISI Yogyakarta language center or other institutions with a minimum score of 450.
  • The thesis supervisor approves the manuscript to be examined. Approval is expressed by signing a letter of approval to take the thesis examination. This approval letter is included in the tested manuscript.
  • Thesis guidance/consultation sheet that has been filled in and signed by the supervisor.
  • Thesis manuscript duplicated 4 (four) copies
  • Manuscripts that have been published in journals, or a certificate of publication from a journal published by the ISI Yogyakarta postgraduate program or registered with LIPI.
  • Obtain a certificate of registration for the thesis examination issued and signed by the head of the academic and student affairs subdivision (dikmawa).

Thesis Examination Session

Thesis examination procedure

Thesis Examination is a forum to present and account for a final semester student's thesis in the form of a written account of the student's thesis before the thesis examining board.

The final exam consists of 2 assessments:

  • Thesis examination to test the mastery of thesis material, including material, methodology, technique, and writing language.
  • Assessment of the presentation of accountability.

Thesis examining board

Consists of 3-4 people:

  • Chair
  • Mentors (one or two people)
  • Expert tester

Clothing

Dress neatly and modestly (light top dark bottom).

Exam time and duration

The thesis defense session is provided for 50-90 minutes with the following details:

  • Student presentation 10-15 minutes
  • Q&A by examiners, 15-30 minutes each
  • Exam administration 10-15 minutes

Grades and Graduation

The grade given by the examiner is in the form of numbers and letters as regulated in the semester exam. The weight of the thesis score = 60% and the weight of the accountability exam score in the trial = 40%. The minimum passing grade for the thesis is 75 = B. The results of the thesis trial are pass, passed with improvement, and did not pass.

If stated pass (without correction), students can submit thesis archives as many as 5 (five) copies with bound hard cover.

If stated passed with improvementThe thesis revision must be completed within a maximum of 2 months from the date of the thesis examination. If more than 2 months, then the graduation is automatically canceled / dropped, and the person concerned must take the thesis exam again by bearing the entire exam fee.

If stated did not passthe student must retake the thesis examination at the latest in the following semester, and the student must take the thesis examination at the latest in the following semester. required to pay 50% from SPP. The highest grade of the test is B+.

Exam Result Announcement

Passing and not passing or repetition time are discussed and decided by the members of the thesis examining board in a meeting after the thesis examination session is completed.

Students can only attend graduation in the graduation period. To register for graduation, the thesis revision must be signed by all members of the thesis examining board and the director of postgraduate ISI Yogyakarta.

The manuscript is submitted to the subdivision of dikmawa 1 month before graduation.

Theses that have been signed by members of the TA examining board and authorized by the director of PPs ISI Yogyakarta must be duplicated in a minimum of 5 copies, each with illustrations / attachments of original photographs. This thesis archive is distributed by the students themselves to:

  1. Supervisor
  2. Student's home institution
  3. ISI Yogyakarta central library
  4. Library of PPs ISI Yogyakarta
  5. Office of Dikmawa PPs ISI Yogyakarta

For the PPs ISI Yogyakarta library and the ISI Yogyakarta central library, the thesis archive is equipped with an electronic manuscript of the thesis in the form of .pdf and stored on a CD.

Evaluation of Study Success and Termination of Study

The first evaluation is carried out at the end of the 2nd semester, with the criteria that students have passed at least 15 credits with a minimum GPA of 3.00. If unable to meet these criteria, the student concerned is declared unable to take part in the PPs ISI Yogyakarta master of arts governance study program and is subject to sanctions for termination of studies.

The second evaluation (final evaluation) is conducted at the end of the 6th active semester with the following criteria:

  1. Have passed all compulsory and elective courses.

If you cannot meet the first or second / final evaluation criteria according to the study time limit, then the student concerned is deemed unable to take part in PPs ISI Yogyakarta education and may be subject to sanctions for termination of studies.

Graduation Predicate

  1. With praise (cumlaude): GPA, study period not exceeding 4 semesters, and thesis grade with an A.
  2. Very satisfactory: GPA 3.51-3.74.
  3. Satisfactory: GPA 3.00-3.50.

Graduation

Each graduate of the ISI Yogyakarta postgraduate program is only given one opportunity to attend graduation in the graduation period. If he does not attend the graduation, he is still required to pay the graduation fee and his name is included in the graduation book.

The implementation of graduation (time and place) for prospective graduates of the ISI Yogyakarta art governance master study program is carried out at the ISI Yogyakarta integrated campus, together with graduation for prospective undergraduate graduates.

Graduation is held twice each year, in March and September. Requirements and provisions related to graduation are regulated in separate provisions.

Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the taking of someone else's ideas/writing as one's own. Plagiarism is a serious offense in the academic world because plagiarism makes truth and examination of truth difficult or impossible. If found plagiarizing, students who commit this offense can be subject to sanctions in the form of: not passing the course, not passing the thesis exam, or being expelled from the graduate program of ISI Yogyakarta.
