TRANSDISCIPLINARY CREATIVE AND ARTS STUDIES FROM AN ASIA PACIFIC PERSPECTIVE

The advancement of education, especially in the Asia Pacific region, supported by the rapid advancement of technology in today's global civilization, aligns with the complexity of emerging problems.

As recommended by UNESCO, a global multisectoral organization, the need to actively participate in finding the best solutions to address today's global problems was highlighted, urging a search for new and better approaches. UNESCO initiated the use of transdisciplinary approaches to tackle the global problems we are facing today.

The academic world today is characterized by the existence of non-integrated disciplines. Integration, therefore, becomes the key word needed to improve understanding. Thus, a transdisciplinary approach becomes the most relevant approach to implement.

????????????????????????????????????

A transdisciplinary approach differs from multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches. Multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches present disciplines as segmented. Neither of these approaches possesses the concept of integration, which is needed to improve understanding of existing problems. Therefore, the transdisciplinary approach can be viewed as an intellectual space where discussed issues are linked, explored, and opened up to achieve a better understanding. Within this intellectual space, issues are discussed and also rethought and analyzed for implementation. Implementing a transdisciplinary approach is an effort to confront global issues and find solutions that require complex interdisciplinary dialogue. This dialogue is necessary to connect and enhance mutual understanding between disciplines.

????????????????????????????????????

In implementing the transdisciplinary approach, we do not need to rely on existing stereotypical formulas, procedures, and standard answers, as is commonly found. The effort to implement the transdisciplinary approach is not an easy one. The important thing is to realize that the implementation of the transdisciplinary approach requires new perspectives, dispositions, behaviors, and ways of thinking.

The academics are necessary to be prepared not only by one discipline by its cognition alone, but most, this global condition requires a transdisciplinary orientation through interpenetration between reason, emotion, intuition and creative talents. Therefore, the Creative and Arts Studies comes into a new departure, a fresh opportunity for the Education Institution to fulfill its obligation of contributing to the world by pursuing high quality arts education and research environments that foster the intellectual courage needed to support the society in the future. The Transdisciplinary Creative and Arts Studies brings the new arises of Transdisciplinary studies both on the edges of or at the interfaces between traditional disciplines - be it in the arts, or everyday life, explores precisely reviews these interfaces and intersections, and serves as a hinge and a hub between the arts, the sciences, and society, to accommodate the global challenge from the world along with the necessity of the modern industrial development.

????????????????????????????????????

Transdisciplinary Creative and Arts Studies is a collective approach that utilizes knowledge of art and human analytical skills to understand larger systems and complexities. It aims to build necessary perspectives and explore new meanings through synergy. In other words, transdisciplinary is a joint effort to understand complex global problems.
