About ICAPAS 2026

The world is experiencing profound technological, environmental, and cultural transformations that are reshaping how knowledge is created, shared, and experienced. Artistic research has emerged as a distinctive mode of inquiry that integrates creative practice, critical reflection, and interdisciplinary collaboration to address these complex challenges.

The 14th International Conference on Arts and Culture in the Asia-Pacific (ICAPAS 2026) invites scholars, artists, designers, architects, performers, musicians, filmmakers, photographers, animators, educators, and creative practitioners to explore how artistic research contributes to human flourishing and planetary well-being.

Framed through the complementary concepts of Resonance and Relevance, the conference examines how artistic research generates meaningful knowledge while responding to pressing global issues, including sustainability, cultural diversity, technological transformation, and social innovation.

ICAPAS 2026 welcomes original research, practice-based inquiry, research creation, artistic experimentation, and interdisciplinary collaboration that connect creative excellence with societal impact.

Conference Theme:

Resonance and Relevance: Artistic Research for Human and Planetary Futures

It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32
