The advancement of education especially in Asia Pacific region which is supported by the rapid advancement of technology in today’s global world civilization make it linear to the complexity of the problems emerged.
As recommended by UNESCO as a global multisectoral organization, highlighted the need to actively participate in finding the best solution to face global problems that exist today, to look for a new and better approach to address the global multi-sectoral problems. UNESCO initiated the use of transdisciplinary approaches to address global problems we are facing today.
Academic world today is characterized by the existence of non integrated disciplines. Integration is therefore becomes the key word needed to improve the understanding. Then transdisciplinary approach becomes the most relevant approach to be implemented.
Transdisciplinary approach has differences compare to multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach. Multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches show the segmented disciplines. Both of these approaches, do not have a concept of integration that is needed to improve the understanding of the existing problems. Hence, transdisciplinary approach can be seen as an intellectual space where the issues discussed are linked together, explored, and opened to gain a better understanding. In the intellectual space, issues are discussed and also re-thought (rethinking) and analyzed to be implemented. The implementation of transdisciplinary approach is an effort to confront the global issues and finding solutions that are requiring a complex interdisciplinary dialogue. This dialogue is necessary to connect and improve the mutual understanding between disciplines.
In implementing the transdisciplinary approach, we do not need to rely on the existing stereotypes formulae, procedures and the standard answer as it is commonly found. The efforts to implement the transectoral approach is not an easy effort. The important thing is to realize that the implementation of transdisciplinary approach requires the views, disposition, behavior, and new ways of thinking.
The academics are necessary to be prepared not only by one discipline by its cognition alone, but most, this global condition requires a transdisciplinary orientation through interpenetration between reason, emotion, intuition and creative talents. Therefore, the Creative and Arts Studies comes into a new departure, a fresh opportunity for the Education Institution to fulfill its obligation of contributing to the world by pursuing high quality arts education and research environments that foster the intellectual courage needed to support the society in the future . The Transdisciplinary Creative and Arts Studies bring the new arises of Transdisciplinary studies both on the edges of or at the interfaces between traditional disciplinines – be it in the arts, or everyday life, explores precisely reviews these interfaces and intersections, and serves as a hinge and a hub between the arts, the sciences, and society, to accomodate the global challenge from the world along with the necessity of the modern industrial development.
Transdisciplinary Creative and Arts Studies is a collective approach that utilizes knowledge of art and the human analytical skills in understanding the larger systems and complex, which aims to build the necessary views and explore new meanings that synergy. Transdisciplinary in other words is a joint effort to understand the complex global problems.
